Regeneration of natural grass football fields

The regeneration of natural grass in football fields is an essential activity to ensure the quality of the turf and the safety of the game. This intervention is particularly relevant in specific climatic contexts, such as those of Sardinia, with particular reference to Cagliari, Olbia and its province and Corsica. In these areas, characterized by unique environmental conditions, it is necessary to adopt targeted agronomic techniques and appropriate maintenance cycles, in order to preserve the functionality and aesthetics of the playing field throughout the year.

"Eco Green Company is a leader in the field of regeneration of natural grass from football fields in Sardinia and Corsica. We are prepared to work considering all the problems related to the greenery of sports facilities, located not only in our territory, but throughout Italy."

The regeneration of natural grass in Sardinia and Corsica

What does it consist of?

Grass regeneration on sports fields is essential to maintain a safe and high-performing playing surface. The use of top-quality materials and advanced techniques ensures excellent results, particularly in Cagliari, across Sardinia, and in Corsica.

In fact, in our nursery we grow grass that we collect in rolls and clods, to ensure fast and very high quality work.

Why choose high-quality grass regeneration?

The turfs of sports fields—such as those used for football, rugby, or tennis—are subject to intense wear, which over time compromises their quality. Constant foot traffic leads to significant soil compaction, restricting the circulation of air, water, and nutrients. At the same time, a layer of ‘thatch’ can form—composed of dead and undecomposed plant material—which hinders grass growth and affects the overall health of the turf. To maintain both performance and player safety, it is essential to schedule regular maintenance and regeneration treatments.

Therefore, Eco Green Company makes its experience available to plan and schedule a set of extraordinary maintenance interventions. In this way, optimal playing conditions are maintained and high performance and safety of players can be guaranteed.

Nailing

A surface aeration technique performed using equipment fitted with solid tines (nails) that penetrate the soil to a depth of 8–10 cm without removing any material. This process enhances water infiltration, oxygenation of the root system, and stimulates microbial activity in the soil. It is particularly effective during periods of water stress or following intense sporting events.

Forconing

Deep aeration carried out with hollow or solid tips (up to 20–30 cm deep) mounted on forking equipment. It allows the compacted layers to be broken up in the subsoil, improving root development and water percolation in depth. It can be combined with sandblasting interventions to maximize effectiveness.

Core drilling

Aeration technique by extracting soil cores (diameter ranging from 10 to 25 mm) up to a depth of 10–15 cm. It improves macroporosity, reduces the bulk density of the soil and allows the infiltration of soil conditioners or sand. Essential on sand or mixed fields, with intensive cycle of use.

Decompactation

Mechanical intervention carried out with blades or spikes that penetrate up to 25–35 cm, without altering the surface. Essential for relieving deep compaction due to heavy traffic (machinery, sporting events). It makes the soil more draining and improves root development in the long term.

Felting

A process of mechanically removing the layer of thatch (undecomposed organic matter) that accumulates between the soil and the turf. This operation is performed using equipment fitted with vertical or spring-loaded blades. Thatch control is essential to prevent hydrophobicity, fungal diseases, and a decline in turf quality.

Top dressing

Controlled distribution of washed silica sand, with suitable grain size, often following coring or forconing. It promotes the physical structure of the root profile, improves drainage and helps keep the playing surface even. It can be made with variable thickness, depending on the needs.

Seeding / Overseeding

An agronomic procedure aimed at establishing and maintaining turf density by distributing seeds of selected herbaceous species, including both microtherms and macrotherms. It is performed using professional seeders, ideally after scarification or thatch removal, to ensure proper soil-seed contact.

Personalized Nutritional Programs

Tailored programs based on soil analysis and seasonal needs. The use of granular or liquid fertilizers—offering immediate effects or controlled release—includes balanced NPKs, microelements, and biostimulants. These programs are essential for supporting turf growth, resilience, and recovery.

Chemical treatments

Targeted application of plant protection products (fungicides, insecticides, selective herbicides) authorized for sports use. An integral part of the integrated pest management for the control of biotic adversities of the sports turf.

Why carry out constant maintenance?

First and foremost, a level turf not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures player safety and optimizes game performance.

Investing in the maintenance of sports turf is essential for the well-being of athletes and the overall quality of the game. Contact us today to learn how we can help keep your football pitch in top condition!
